Sophie Howarth,Christopher Eamon,Michael Newman,Christiane Paul,Al Rees,Ian White,John Wyver: Film and Video Art
Description
Over the past four decades, film and video have played an increasingly important role in contemporary art. For the first time, a single volume traces the history of artists' involvement with the moving image, from the earliest experiments with film to the latest digital and video streaming techniques over the Internet. "Film and Video Art" takes in all the major developments in the unfolding dialogue between artists and moving image media. Among the works examined are films by the Lumiere Brothers from the late nineteenth century; films associated with art movements including Surrealism, Dada, Russian Constructivism and Pop Art; the advent of video; the arrival of the moving image in the gallery; the prominence of documentary in recent contemporary art; the advent of the major-budget art film; and the emergence of net art and video streaming. Artists and film-makers covered include: Matthew Barney, Blast Theory, Luis Bunuel, Vuk Cosic, Salvador Dali Douglas Gordon, Dan Graham, Gary Hill, Pierre Huyghe, Jodi, Robert Morris, Anthony McCall, Bruce Nauman, Sam Taylor-Wood, Richard Serra Wolfgang Stahle, and Andy Warhol.
"School Library Journal"
This picture book from award-winning author Andrew Larsen playfully and imaginatively explores a young child's process of learning to express himself. It promotes the idea that stories are available for everyone to tell, whatever way we can, and will inspire pre-readers to try writing stories of their own. The lively, fun illustrations by Mike Lowery incorporate story panels with dialogue bubbles, adding visual texture. Also helpful, the boy's story is Film and Video Art free pdf shown both as he actually writes it --- with just a few letters, some punctuation marks and typographical symbols --- and as he imagines it. Celebrating self-expression, self-discovery and imagination, this book would enhance an early language arts lesson on writing, particularly on the parts of a story. It beautifully highlights the exciting worlds that are opened up when children begin to read and write. In a sweet touch, the boy and his sister model a close and supportive sibling relationship.
